HIGH-SCHOOL SENIOR YEAR CHECKLIST
A list of to-dos during your last year of high school to plan for college; including financial support, applications and recommendations, campus visits, and deciding where to attend.
QUE ES WORK-STUDY?
According to the Federal Student Aid website Federal Work-Study provides part-time jobs for undergraduate and graduate students with financial need, allowing them to earn money to help pay education expenses.
The program encourages community service work and is related to the student's course study.
PREPARING THE NEXT GENERATION:
There is no need to recreate the path when the mold is already there. So, I decided to combine my expertise in education, going on 8 years of mentoring students through college and career paths, with my commitment to excellence and inner drive to just giving back to my beautiful community.
WHAT’S NEXT?
I was blessed with a family who understood the power of education and did not hold me back from moving 2.5 hours away for college. I was READY, I needed an out. Don’t get me wrong, I grew up in a safe environment, in a good town, but we were all the same. Everyone was bilingual, from the same culture, and we all looked and acted fairly similar.
ALWAYS KEEP MOVING FORWARD
You often don’t realize how fast time flies until it’s already past. I think most of the time we’re so worried about our next step we forget to celebrate all of the things we accomplish that were things that we once dreamed about doing.
BUSCA TU INSPIRACIÓN
A lo largo de mi crecimiento me he ido topando con muros para mi crecimiento profesional. Y se sorprenderán al saber que quienes cimentaron los primeros ladrillos fueron mis propios padres. Vengo de una familia unida, aunque alejada por la distancia. Durante mi niñez viví situaciones de desaprobación por mis sueños y anhelos, por aquellos de quien necesitaba más apoyo. Durante los años en que debía ser orientada para encontrar mi vocación profesional fui desalentada a perseguir mis primeras elecciones de carrera.
¿QUÉ VAMOS A SABER A ESA EDAD?
Me gustaba estudiar y mis compañeros siempre me consideraron nerd. Sin embargo, el reto llegó al terminar la preparatoria y decidir a qué dedicarme profesionalmente pues tenía muchas inquietudes y dudas. Hoy sé que la mayoría de los jóvenes experimentamos ansiedad en estos momentos y, por mucha orientación profesional que tengamos, no es una decisión sencilla.
